Let's start with the most expensive phone of the two, the Galaxy A54. It sports a main camera with a 50MP sensor (aperture - F1.8, OIS), a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 5MP macro camera. Yep, the 50MP sensor does seem like a downgrade from last year's 64MP one from the A53. But, higher camera megapixel counts on paper don't always translate to better images.
Samsung seems to have in store some improvements for the camera quality and user experience with the Galaxy A54. For one, we'll have an upgraded OIS (that's the Optical Image Stabilization ensuring you won't have blurry photos). Exactly what this upgrade will bring is yet to be seen.
We also have Samsung's Nightography and AI capabilities to help with photo quality. And last but not least, you will be able (for the first time on a Galaxy A phone) to remove unwanted shadows or reflections with Samsung's editing tools.
The Galaxy A34 on the other hand sports a bit more modest camera system. Its main shooter is a 48MP one (F1.8, OIS), complemented by an 8MP ultra-wide with F2.2 aperture, and a 5MP macro shooter. However, the OIS and editing tools are present for this phone as well.
As for selfies, the Galaxy A54 sports a 32MP shooter, and the A34 - has a 13MP one.
The design of these two phones hasn't changed dramatically from last year. They come in several fresh new colors: Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome White for the Galaxy A54 and Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Silver for the A34. As for dust and water protection, both phones come with IP67 rating.
Another new design element is the camera bump... which doesn't really exist anymore. Each camera lens sits individually just like the S23 series, which is a decision that looks great, clean, and polished. Each camera lens is surrounded by a thin rim painted in a matching color to the phone's back. Pretty neat, we might add!
Also, the depth sensor is missing on both phones. However, fear not - for portrait images, the main camera should be able to do the heavy lifting instead of a depth sensor, so you really shouldn't lose anything in this department.
Turning both phones around, we're greeted by two beautiful Super AMOLED displays surrounded by relatively thin bezels and a slightly more noticeable chin. The A34 has a teardrop notch for the selfie camera, and the A54 sports a punch-hole. Now, let's talk a bit more about the displays.
Samsung also says the displays of the two phones have been upgraded for better outdoor visibility. Also, they have an enhanced Vision Booster to ensure your display will adapt to your surrounding lighting conditions as fast as possible.
